Valentine’s Day??? Thoughts. Ideas. Suggestions.

Valentine’s Day, V’day, Single Awareness Day… Feb. 14th… well, no matter what you call it, do you celebrate it? Do you ever do anything “special” for it? I’m gonna be honest, this is one holiday I’ve never really got the hang of. I never really fully celebrated it. Maybe it’s the pandemic talking, but I think I want to make it a little special. Somehow, quarantine life makes every little thing or holiday an excuse for celebrating, maybe it’s just to break the routine? Either way, I have some thoughts about the day.

I truly think the only time I gave it the full-on flowers/chocolate/balloons/dinner out, was in High School. But wait for the irony… I paid and did all that for my then-boyfriend, turned ex-husband. And that night I brought my two younger sisters along for Denny’s so my parents could have alone time. (I was a good oldest sibling, by the way.)

Eventually, though having my kid, I turned it into a spoil the child day. Crafts, like handmade valentines for the class and just random surprises for them.

Thinking of it, I do remember my last “married” Valentine’s day. The one time I did get something. I am pretty sure that’s the day both child and I got bouquets… kiddo got the mistress’ bouquet (because she was also married and wasn’t going to be caught with it) and we apparently got matching bouquets…he had a “good-bye” sushi dinner with her, she was moving soon, long story, lol, but eventually I figured most of this out. But, maybe getting something on Valentine’s Day should have been a red flag? Sigh. Hind-sight.

So as you get, it’s still strange and foreign to me to think of “celebrating” beyond a kid’s level, but I want to. I want the excuse for extra fun or something. Don’t you too?

Ok, the really funny part of this, and what brought on this whole train of thoughts was I’ve been doing some partnership kind of deal with AdoreMe, not paid or anything, just gifted and most recently they wanted, they challenged me to think of what I want for Valentine’s. What I envisioned? Is it self-care? Is it romantic? Etc. And all I could think is, I want stereotypical-cheesy, even if that meant us all just having a night of cracking up. Though, I’m not gonna lie a little spoiling never hurts. 😉 Thankfully, my partner tends to do that whenever, but even with him, Valentine’s has never been “a thing.”

valentine's day

I did post to my Instagram Stories the other day, this meme I stumbled across (sorry, I don’t know who originally made it or even shared it), but it was pretty accurate. Though I’m gonna add, I’ll take rocks…and chocolates too, hehe.

So that’s what I think I’ll do this year!

adoreme

Buy myself the things! Decorate with some Paper+Paste heart decorations and just go to town. Maybe even get lucky enough to wear one of my AdoreMe sets (crossing fingers). But of course, I still have to make it special for the kiddo and the partner too! Gonna do my best for some small business and small budget magic. …Time to get crafty!

But, here is my question to you, What Do You Do? What do you plan to do? Do you normally do anything? Maybe it’s typical to skip, but will you plan some fun this year? Share! I want to hear. 😉

I didn’t think I celebrated Valentine’s Day but looking back on it. I think we’ve been travelling for the last 4 of them. So maybe that counts!? 🥰

Traveling so counts! Sorry that this year you had to go a more creative route…maybe make the house like a fake Paris? Italy? Or something 😉

I dont historically celebrate Valentine’s Day either but thanks to the crystal and rock shop you tagged in this post, I’m going to make Valentine’s Day a THING this year! My partner doesn’t know it yet, but he’s going to buy me a box of rocks from AJillianLittleThings!

    1. Felicia

Ha! Love it! And rocks are everything! My kiddo doesn’t know it yet, but there are totally goodies from AJillianLittleThings in their heart-shaped box! Can’t wait for them to get them.

The wife and I never do anything big- especially since its usually a night that restaurants (pre-COVID) were all booked up. But we might get flowers or a card, or cook the other something special. We’ve kind of made it a point not to overdo it. I’d rather save that for our anniversary!

    1. Felicia

Makes sense. But a little definitely goes a long way too, especially since we’re all stuck in quarantine.

Wow Felicia, your mistress and wife bouquets are a sad reality in my life as well.

I love that we are stronger woman and will be happier or already are happier now! I do still believe in candy and Champagne for Valentines…bought for myself!

    1. Felicia

So sorry to hear that Nancy! It’s just awful! But it definitely pushed us to be the better version of ourselves for ourselves! And you totally know I bought Champagne and candy for myself as well, lol!

My husband’s birthday is the following day and our dating anniversary is the 27th so we just do a combined celebration. He told me at work he was into me 9 years ago by putting a red bull and a rose in my locker so that’s what he always gets me.

We have a tradition of doing fondue (with the kids) on V-Day, think Melting Pot style, 3 courses over 2 hours, with drinks and for the finale, a dance party! It’s special to us, and we spend good quality time together, without screens and all enjoying each other’s company.

    1. Felicia

You all are too cute! I’m sure that will be fun and especially the youngest not being too tiny anymore, makes it a great family time! Helps break up the quarantine life routine too.

Our Valentine’s Day has involved “kid things” for the last 10 years. I think the kids make the day better because it brings it more joy and less stress about finding the right gift.

    1. Felicia

Totally true! I’m glad we still do stuff with the kiddo too. 😉
