Write something light, something positive, happy, uplifting, funny, and light-hearted. So I’m told.
These hard topic posts are what always lead to big breaks between writing. I never set out to be the “Debbie Downer” warning drone, but one thing after another and there shows no signs of stopping. Let me give you a picture.
Since writing these:
“Abortion Resources & Where to Donate”, since writing that the official fall of “Roe v. Wade” happened and currently according to the Center of Reproductive Rights abortion is only protected in 21 states and the District of Columbia (D.C.). That is 26 states where abortion is banned or there are severe limitations. Let’s also talk about how the “Comstock Act” is back into conversation as even condoms are starting to be questioned.
“Rainbow Capitalism, My Two Cents”, I honestly hate to even reference this post at this point and in fact plan on doing a much-needed update. Where once I stood by Target and their attempts of allyship I can not any longer. In fact, I would say the damn Dollar Trees are more an ally than Target at this point, at least there they have a rainbow end cap. Yes, we are so far backwards that Target has walked its annual Pride collection back and are now giving in to the bullies. Only half of their stores will be stocking Pride merch. This is not allyship. We don’t pander. I just hope GLSEN finds a better partner for this year’s fundraising.
“Big Sigh! This Moment of Relief”, ha! This was short-lived, but then again I kind of knew that when writing it, just not the turns this political world would take. I don’t think I expected Trump to run again, even while being convicted on multiple fronts. I also couldn’t predict that he would pick a running mate who has no qualms about killing a dog.
And even since the post about Nex or the ones with Texas and Utah trans resources, it’s only gotten scarier. There are currently (as of 5/29/2024) 515 anti-LGBTQ bills in the works. That is an increase of 78 bills since just February! Someone explain this to me because I do not get it!
All this to say, I hate being told I have nothing to fear. But what I probably hate even more is the fact that it’s been such an uphill battle to get out of this negative news cycle, and I haven’t even touched on the genocide that is currently happening in the world.
I do really wish to write something light! Something happy and uplifting, but this isn’t the time.
My brain hasn’t been in the space. Does it make sense that I almost feel wrong sharing happy moments on my socials? I will celebrate victories, but I am not able to forget the battles being waged.
