Literally, the hardest time of the year being a cosplayer on Halloween! …well besides being a cosplayer during 2020 canceled con madness. (Ignore my silent crying. Lol!) But really, for those of you going cross-eyed trying to understand, let me spell this out. Do you know how some women refuse to be photographed at events in the same dress more than once? Well, it’s kind of along those lines. Not completely, but close.
Okay, follow me on this.
Wearing a cosplay to many is different than just putting on a costume. Not saying this to sound like a gatekeeper, but there is more to “cosplay.” Cosplay is more like a persona that this cosplayer has become so attached to in many ways. Blood, sweat, and tears poured into this persona. Some making everything from scratch and fine-tuning over years. Getting this character as close to screen accurate as possible. Cosplayers even practicing traits, characteristics, and posing. These are almost like our alter-egos. A lot of cosplayers are even known for and recognized as these characters, so why on this special holiday would we want to be something we are pretty often?
You would think the options are limitless. Cosplayers have this full closet of character to dawn. (Hence the tweet at the top.) Some would even think the options are limitless. We’re ready and have a plethora of options on handβ¦NOPE.
Halloween is like our one time of the year to completely mix it up and do whatever. A time do completely our own creations unrelated to those very loved in many geek culture. I honestly have to laugh because sometimes, I think of Halloween as our lazy dress-up day. Onesie costumes? Why not!? Ha!
Another reason, for many of us, why we tend to avoid wearing our cosplay to Halloween parties is just think of the extensive work and money invested. It is pretty risky to wear the cosplays out to parties where there are a lot of ruined clothes possibilities. No one wants to take the chance of a drunk accident or what not trashing their years of work. Just imagine. Such a travesty.
Now in my case, normal years you wouldn’t catch me wearing anything, I’ve never previously worn for Halloween. It is kind of how I record my years, easy to remember when there’s a different outfit in those memories. But this year, I may be tweaking an existing. Most likely saving my grand ideas like the Labyrinth one for next year…or next con. In our case, we’re currently stalking Halloween Costumes and Amazon on possible tweaks to my existing Wonder Woman dress and making it a couple’s costume since the kiddo is in their own tween-land. Aka, pretty sure, group themed family costume days are gone for us, but who knows, maybe we’ll get lucky. (Pretty sure it’s gonna be one of their “fursona’s” wearing a Halloween costume at this point, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see what I post on Instagram.) Only time will tell.
Curious, have you all figured it out already? Spooky friends?
Cosplayers, how you doing out there?
Anyone have a solid game plan yet? Please, tell me I’m not the only one totally thrown off my game this year! Lol.
*Update* Kiddo is definitely in the “what should my fursona wear?” mode and it is too cute not to share it here too!
Now we wait and see which is the winner. so far polls are looking like the “King.”

Cosplaying is fun!…even in my case, where I can’t sew to save my life! Ha! And yes, Halloween is our favorite. It’s weird having to tapper down our Halloween Bucketlist, but I have a feeling next year we’ll come back bigger and better. π

Felicia
Awe, well glad it was helpful for that and will probably make more sense when people post about “Cosplays” now, especially when Comic-Con is back. π

That AvantGeek is seriously impressive! and Awe, thank you if you want the furry at the bottom, lol. The kiddo put a lot of time just in building that fursuit.
Tanya
Pretty jelly of this wardrobe line up! I would be wearing them out on the weekends just for fun, but I can see how when Halloween comes it’s a tough choice!!
Felicia
Haha! I mean if I had some of these options I probably would too…at least TikTok puts the outfits to a little more use these days. π

I love cosplayers so much. It’s so amazing to see how much work and detail they put into becoming the character. Great post!
Felicia
Thank you. I know, it is REALLY impressive, especially seeing some of these in person, photos do not always do them justice.
Alyssa
How fun! I love your pictures! I still have no clue on Halloween costumes for this year. Hoping to come up with something that I don’t have to buy π
Felicia
Thanks, figured I could still share a bit of last year’s fun in there. (I actually let the kiddo have free rein and make my outfit as well.) I have faith you can! Pinterest is super helpful, hehe. π
