Engaged-Betrothed-Affianced – What Our Engagement Looks Like

Another (Past-Due) Life Update Time! Lol. But just in case you aren’t following Ello Felicia’s media, you may have missed it… We’re ENGAGED! Betrothed-Affianced… He Put A Ring On It! But our engagement, might not look like the average, especially in these strange covid times.

It definitely is an interesting time to be alive let alone being in a newly engaged stage of life. I’m thankful we aren’t in a hurry for the wedding bit, but I’m totally feeling for all those couples out there trying to get to the next step.

Rules. Traditions. All the “normal” steps are out the door.

I was talking to a few of my friends in the wedding industry and they all say the same, there is no “normal” anymore. Engagement parties whenever (not the time crunch it used to be). Save the dates aren’t just for the big day announcements. Elopements, hurry-up, and waits …just everything is so all over the place. And a lot of booking issues with all the 2020-covid weddings being pushed back. It’s definitely some strange times for wedding kind of love.

As for ourselves, we were just starting to feel a tiny bit careful-safe for a bit. We even were thinking of having an engagement party. In fact, we even took steps to plan it. Thinking, okay, vax required, small backyard something that should be safe, right?

What is the saying “God laughs when we make plans”?? Something like that, well wonderful omicron has hit, and now, not even that is no longer safe. Before we could even mail out all the “Save the Dates” or tentative invites mailed out we were already having to cancel.

Honestly, it’s okay though. We have never really been ones for tradition, so go figure nothing about us would be. And, lucky for us, it’s okay to pivot.

We’ll wait and hope to at least get some family meeting time in at some point and just move the celebration after the vows are exchanged. So, oh well celebration bit shifts. What matters most is we are happy, also staying safe and healthy.

And, at least the proposal part couldn’t have been any better! It was a very us kind of proposal.

The kiddo was heavily involved. Like even their teachers knew what was up. And hearing later of all the cute discussions between my partner and the kid. It’s funny hearing at some points the two of them had multiple conversations about, “is this gaslighting?” I just love how healthy their conversations always are, even with this as well.

I knew, well, had a strong feeling it was coming, like an annoyingly amount of knowledge, but also none at all, going on all at the same time. It was madness. Even my Tiktok’s FYP had a feeling something was up I swear! But, neither of them gave me clues, just kept making it sound like “someday.”

So just a couple of days before my birthday, I was told to get dressed up for some much-needed “birthday content creation” and let’s head out to Balboa Park. He was right, I totally had nothing at that point to post on my birthday, so he got me there. (Ironically, I didn’t even end up using the pictures from that night for the b’day post.)

We went to multiple spots in Balboa Park, taking as many pics in a hurry before sundown. And with all the switching I was feeling my guess of it happening was probably off. I let my guard down. We let the kid play photographer and pose us, taking cheesy prom-style pictures in the cactus garden part of the park.

That’s when it happened. I was directed to look off into the hills, and that’s when he got on his knee. Then the kid directed me to turn around and I saw him. The whole time kiddo is on top of a tiny boulder video recording. The recording even has audio of the kiddo cheering, than mocking us for kissing too long, lol! It’s super cute and I’m so happy we have it.

There was only the three of us there. No onlooking traffic and random strangers. Just perfect especially for us, because believe it or not even with my social media job, I’m still rather shy and not great with the spotlight. Same goes for my partner and kid, so no strangers meant we could have the moment in our own goofy way.

We finished the night with a little stroll and in my kid’s case scooter around the park. Took some more pictures of my gorgeous ring. Picked up some Denny’s on the way home and called it a night. Such a sweet memory. Just perfect for us three.

As for the future bits, it’ll be a while.

We definitely want to wait till it’s safer for travel, we’re pretty positive part of our elopement vision, which means at least a roadtrip. Also, we both have some goals we want to hit first, mostly of the typical legal and financial stuff. But, in the meantime we’re happy just living in the engaged step for a while.

When the time is right we’ll take that next step. I mean, it isn’t like I’m not excited to be his Mrs and all, hehe.

This is such a hard time to celebrate big things. We’re having to do some reimagining about how we handle milestones, and being on the edge of it is rough because we have to figure it all out from scratch.

Thank goodness for technology and being able to share at least some form of your joy across distance. ❤️ Proud of you for being careful.

Congrats!! I love the kiddo recording it on a boulder, and the built-in commentary 😆
